35 years Diaconaal Centrum Pauluskerk

The Pauluskerk in Rotterdam opened her doors in 1960. Since 1979 the Pauluskerk grew from ‘just a church’ to a meeting and support place with a diaconal function. This was led by Pastor Hans Visser. The main focus was the care of drug addicts. In the last years the focus became wider, also for people without residence permits. In September 2008 Pastor Dick Couvée took over.

For more than 35 years the Pauluskerk stands up for people in Rotterdam and surroundings, that without help (economically, socially, spiritually) will not make it. Often the Pauluskerk spoke and speaks, trhough the activities and trhough the way how the church helps her target group. The biblical motto: ‘Overcome  evil with good’ – is very important to the Pauluskerk.

Recently the Pauluskerk is reconstructed. In the summer of 2013 the English architect Will Alsop opened the strikingly styled church building that fits well with the needs of our visitors. We have a beautiful church room, rooms for recreation and workshops, open house, doctor room and a night shelter for 24 people. The location is the same as before: Mauritsweg, near the Central Station. A place in the heart of society. May be even more than ever.
